Why choose us?
Bordeaux is rapidly becoming an international
hotspot for the emerging field of philosophy “in” science. This unique
interdisciplinary topic is central to the PhilInBioMed network,
created in 2017.
PhilInBioMed is an interdisciplinary institute located at the University of Bordeaux (France), and a national and international network connecting groups and institutes that work at the interface between philosophy, biology, and medicine in order to transform scientific practices and discovery. The network has three main missions:
› Promote
short and long-term stays for philosophers in biological and medical laboratories,
as well as short and long-term stays for biologists and medical doctors in laboratories
of philosophy, at both local and international scales.
› Promote
collaborative publications by philosophers, biologists, and medical doctors –
targeting philosophical, scientific, and medical journals.
› Promote
participation in common conferences, seminars and reading groups.
The network includes philosophers, biologists and medical doctors among its members, and has organized over 60 seminars, 20 workshops and 6 conferences. In November 2018, the University of Bordeaux hosted the first international meeting of the network, followed by the second meeting in October 2019, thus affirming its leading international position in this domain.
Other associate institutions include Arizona State University (USA), the University of Cincinnati (USA), the University of Pittsburg (USA), the University of Utah (USA), the University of Sydney (Australia), the University of Cambridge (UK) and the University of Exeter (UK).
