Application

Many thanks for your interest in this Bordeaux Summer School. Please note that the application deadline is March 15th, 2026. You will receive an admission decision no later than April 15th, 2026.

We ask you to please merge your application documents into one PDF file, to be named as follows: BSS_PIBM - FAMILYNAME_Firstname. You are required to provide :

  • Brief CV (maximum 2 pages)
  • A summary (maximum 1,500 words) of your current research interests, highlighting connections to both philosophy and the life sciences and/or medical sciences, and indicating your motivation to participate in the summer school.
  • Please indicate which group you would like to join during the summer school by listing three options from the following topics in order of preference:
1. Can archaeological remains be replaced by digital data? Course leaders: Adeline LE CABEC and Mathilde LEQUIN (University of Bordeaux)
2. Evolutionary constraints on cancer susceptibility across the tree of life. Course leaders: Carlo MALEY (Arizona State University), Orsolya VINCZE (University of La Rochelle), and Thomas PRADEU (University of Bordeaux)
3. The principles of aging. Course leaders: Alan COHEN (Columbia University) and Maël LEMOINE (University of Bordeaux)
4. Sense, memory and meaning: How do organisms represent and learn from multi-modal sensory experiences? Course leaders: Lisa ROUX and Christopher STEVENS (University of Bordeaux)
5. Raising the temperature in biology: what role does heat play in evolution? Course leaders: Elis JONES (TU Munich), Marie VASSE (University of Bordeaux), and Scott GILBERT (Swarthmore College)
  • Please indicate whether you require accommodation during the summer school.

Registration being limited to 20-30 participants, attendees will be selected by the organising committee from the candidate pool based on merit, background, and other criteria until full capacity is reached.

No applications will be accepted after May 15th, 2026.

› Participation fee:

› 250 € for Master and doctoral students without accommodation

› 400 € for post-doctoral fellows without accommodation

› 870 € for post-doctoral fellows including accommodation
