Practical information

› N° participants: 20-30

› Language: all classes are held in English. Candidates should at least have a B2 level of English or equivalent.

› Location: the summer school takes place on the Carreire campus of the University of Bordeaux.

› Participant profile: the summer school is aimed at second-year master's students, doctoral candidates, and postdoctoral researchers in the fields of philosophy of science, life sciences, and medicine.

› Applications: to apply for this summer school, please ensure that your application includes the following documents:

  • A brief CV (maximum 2 pages)
  • A summary (maximum 1,500 words) of your current research interests, highlighting connections to both philosophy and the life sciences and/or medical sciences, and indicating your motivation to participate in the summer school.
  • Please indicate which group you would like to join during the summer school by listing three options from the following topics in order of preference:
  1. Human evolution
  2. Cancer
  3. Ageing
  4. Neuroscience
  5. Symbiosis/EcoEvoDevo

› Deadline: March 15th, 2026.

› Participation fee:

› 250 € for Master and doctoral students without accommodation (including lunches, coffee breaks and social programme costs)

› 400 € for post-doctoral fellows without accommodation (including lunches, coffee breaks and social programme costs)

› 720 € for Master and doctoral students (including accommodation, lunches, coffee breaks and social programme costs)

› 870 € for post-doctoral fellows (including accommodation, lunches, coffee breaks and social programme costs)

› Grants: applicants may request exemption from the participation fee. In exceptional cases, the organizers may grant financial support for travel expenses if no other funding options are available. Participants should include a short letter with their application explaining the reasons for requesting exemption/financial support.
